My Take on the Book :
A second chance romance of sorts. Can she forgive him after he knowingly hurting her so badly? I’m not sure I would be so quick to forgive him after what he did. I liked the story. Another quick, easy read in the series.
Alabama didn’t have a good start to life. Emotionally and physically abused by her mama, Alabama spent her high school years in foster care. People let her down, time after time, and she’d learned to rely on only herself.
Christopher “Abe” Powers earned his nickname because he tolerated nothing less than absolute honesty from the people around him. Finding the bar scene stale and having watched his friend and teammate, Wolf, find the woman of his dreams, Abe was determined to find someone to share his life with too.
Alabama and Abe had no idea their paths would cross and their prayers would be answered, but like most things in life, nothing is ever as easy as it seems at first. Two words would change both their lives and they’d have to fight hard for their happy ever after.
My Review of 'Protecting Alabama' by Susan Stoker
Alabama Ford Smith has never known kindness. Her own mother didn’t bother with it. Abusing her to keep her silent, Alabama isn’t ever going to be talkative. She has never had a friend, a present, a reason to trust anyone, but that doesn’t stop her from helping others. A fire suddenly breaks out at her annual office party and she helps Abe Powers and several others to safety.
Abe Powers always takes care of others. No one ever tries to take care of him. So, when the quiet woman from the office party he was dragged to by his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend, saves his life. He can’t stop thinking about her. Who is she and where did she go after it was all over? He has to find her to thank her.
Framed for a series of office thefts, Alabama is sure that Abe is coming to bail her out of jail and save the day. He promised he would always have her back. He promised she could trust him. If you can’t trust a SEAL who can you trust? Exhausted after coming off a mission, Abe isn’t thinking clearly and believes that Alabama could have done what the police alleged.
She sits in jail broken and resolves to leave this life behind as soon as she can make bail.
When Abe realized what he’s done and worse what he said…. Alabama is gone. Vanished. He has to find her and make it right. He promised her. And he always keeps his word.
I liked this story. Out of this series I rank this one as my third favorite. I liked the second chance aspect of the plot, but I thought ending was RUSHED and unbelievable. But for a quick read with, it was enjoyable just the same.
